This is very similar to the\n`notedown <http://github.com/aaren/notedown>`__ and\n`ipymd <http://github.com/rossant/ipymd>`__ packages but supports all\nIPython outputs as well.\n\nThe advantage of using this package is that you get complete\ncompatibility with IPython notebooks and the ability to edit the files\nin any text editor.\n\nThe format is YAML so it is not as pretty as Markdown but is a\nreasonable compromise.\n\nAn example IPython notebook with the corresponding YAML file both with\nthe outputs and without the outputs is available in the\n`examples <https://github.com/prabhuramachandran/ipyaml/tree/master/examples>`__\ndirectory.\n\nInstallation\n------------\n\nInstall the package as follows:\n\n::\n\n    $ pip install ipyaml\n\nUsage\n-----\n\nRun the command ``ipyaml`` to convert between the two formats:\n\n::\n\n    $ ipyaml notebook.ipynb notebook.ipyml  # or notebook.ipyaml\n\n    $ ipyaml notebook.ipyml notebook.ipynb\n\nIf you do not want to store the cell outputs in your YAML files you may\nalso run the ``ipyaml`` script as follows:\n\n::\n\n    $ ipyaml --no-output notebook.ipynb notebook.ipyml\n\nThis will not write any of the outputs. By default, all the outputs are\nalso written to the output. Take a look at the output without output to\nsee that it is very easy to manually remove the outputs if they are not\ndesired.
